What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a safe, non-intrusive therapy to balance and harmonise on all levels - body, mind, emotions and spirit.
During a Reiki session you relax on a therapy couch, fully-clothed, while the practitioner gently places her hands in a sequence of positions on your body.
Reiki promotes a feeling of deep relaxation and wellbeing, and assists your body’s own natural healing ability. It is a holistic therapy, working with you as a whole person rather than with symptoms alone. Reiki may be especially helpful if you are going through stressful and difficult times, or adjusting to a change in circumstances, for example stress at work, relationship breakdown, or physical illness.
It originated in Japan, and the word Reiki means ‘universal life-force energy’ – energy that is guided by a subtle wisdom. Eastern cultures recognise that there is a vital life-force energy flowing through us, and if this becomes blocked it affects our health and wellbeing. Reiki is a specific aspect of this life-force energy that is drawn to wherever you need it most, without any conscious effort on your part, so you get exactly what you need at this time in your life.
How can Reiki help ?
Physically: Reiki supports and accelerates your body's natural ability to heal itself. It can be helpful in relieving pain, and can be given to any part of the body that has been injured. It also helps you to develop greater awareness of your body's needs, such as improving your diet or taking regular exercise.
Mentally: Reiki releases tension and encourages you to let go of unhelpful thoughts and attitudes, and replace them with positive ones.
Emotionally: Reiki promotes a feeling of inner peace, and helps you to release destructive emotions such as anger or resentment.
Spiritually: Reiki promotes greater understanding and acceptance, and supports you on your path towards personal and spiritual growth.
Everyone can have Reiki. It is safe for people of all ages, and also during pregnancy.
What happens during a Reiki session ?
At the first visit you will be asked about your health history, and what you hope to gain from having Reiki, so that the session can be tailored for your personal needs.
You lie comfortably on a therapy couch, and you remain fully clothed throughout. During the session the practitioner gently places her hands in various positions on your body or sometimes slightly off your body, usually starting with your head and working down to your feet. During this time the Reiki energy flows into you, and is drawn to wherever you need it most, without any conscious effort on your part.
Most people feel deeply relaxed and peaceful during a Reiki session, and you may feel heat from the practitioner’s hands, and sensations such as ripples of energy or mild tingling as the Reiki energy flows through you.
A single session is likely to be very beneficial for you, but the effects of Reiki build up cumulatively and the best results come from having a few sessions at regular intervals.
Cost per session: £45 (60 min)
