Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

Emotional Freedom Technique or “tapping” is a therapy which uses gentle tapping on specific meridian points whilst maintaining a mental focus on an emotional issue, such as a fear/phobia. Negative emotions cause disruption in the body’s energy systems and the gentle tapping, whilst focussing on the emotion, helps the body’s systems to regulate and release the emotional charge. Studies have shown positive changes in the amygdala after tapping. The amygdala is a part of the brain which is responsible for triggering the stress response, and tapping helps to send a calming signal, therefore calming this response.

The issue can then be focussed on without the emotional charge and without the negative physiological effect on the body. The brain does not know the difference between past, present and future, so whether you are remembering an incident from the past, or thinking about something that hasn’t happened yet, the effects on the body are the same.

Tapping can help with fears, phobias, self-esteem issues, public speaking, stress and much more. Imagine being able to recall a stressful time without feeling the emotional charge – this is what tapping can do for you, freeing your mental and emotional energy and increasing health and wellbeing. Stress has a huge impact on the body and mind, freeing this energy for better use around the body has many benefits – including reduced stress, improved concentration, improved immune response, better sleep and more.

During a session Emma will discuss what you wish to focus on (this can include physical symptoms as this is your body’s way of highlighting an emotional imbalance) and the root emotion will be explored, usually using a repeated phrase, while gently tapping set points on the body. There can be emotional release but the gentle approach of EFT means that it should not be overwhelming. The result of a session is almost always feeling lighter, sometimes tired as the shifts process and improved energy and wellbeing.

EFT is gentle, safe and effective in person or online and is suitable for adults and children.

Some issues which EFT can address are:

Stress

Anxiety

Performance/public speaking nerves

Exam stress

Fears

Phobias

Self-esteem
